HELP!! 26 baby chicks and 15 didn't make it...Help!!!

i received my chicks and on arrival 21 were dead and 8 others died shortly after...they refunded our money but i dont plan on ordering from them again...ever...they were shipped with little padding and im suprised more didnt die...they also couldnt completly fill my order (i ordered 4 female salmon faverolle and 1 male) they sent me 2 males and a female...we got to looking for the extra male and in the end they didnt even send it. i was seriously disapointed with them...we ordered 45 chicks in total...the paperwork said 48 were sent and we only had 45...so obviously they just are not organized at all...

I talked with my local postoffice about my bad experience with the shipping and the Postmaster was very understanding. I told her that I would be more than happy to drive a liitle ways to maybe pick them up a little earlier and she said she would look into that for me and got my name and number. She called me back within 20 minutes and said that they would arrive Saturday about an hour and a half away if I wanted to pick them up there! I said of course it knocks almost 2 full days off of their shipping. She set me up with one of the main people at that post office and they were also very nice and they are going to call me as soon as they get in ( about 6:30) to come get my babies. Hopefully, all of this will work out and my babies will be alive. It's a great thing for everyone to look into if it is possible. Two days makes a huge difference in these little ones lives. I'll keep you posted and hope to post pictures soon. I ended up having only 3 left from my first batch but they are doing very well and McMurray refunded my whole order! Fingers crossed everything goes well and I get my babies tomorrow!

Yes I can't believe it! Today is going to be the longest day ever waiting on their arrival!

I have heard really mix reviews on McMurray. But I don't think it is just McMurray. I think it is the weather, what day they are sent, and part of it... well the luck of the draw. Don't worry, think positive thoughts that the chicks will come all happy and healthy tomorrow.

I myself, have an order (really small too, 7) from mypetchicken in April. I am getting really nervous after hearing so many people say that their chickens were DOA. You aren't the first and I doubt you will be the last. I am really starting to wonder, that maybe hatching is just better. My only problem with hatching is that I really don't want roo roos. And well it is a mix bag when you hatch.

Keep us posted. I hope they come out all alive and happy!

I am new to this forum and was so sorry to hear you lost so many of your baby chicks. We also had an order come on Feb. 7 from McMurray and we lost half of the order of 27 chicks.

One was dead in the box and we lost the rest over the next 24 hours. All of our order was for big chicks and the mystery chick was a 1/3 their size. I tried very hard to save him but he could only hang on for 4 hours.

:hit I am sure it was the very long transit time - they were shipped out on Friday and we did not get them until Monday. Our post office is closed on Saturday and Sunday. They will call you on Saturday and allow you to get them but nobody is there on Sunday. I have left them my home and cell phone numbers for the post office to call me if they come in on Saturday. I asked McMurray if they could ship on Monday and they told me they only ship on Fridays. I asked if I could have them shipped Express but they told me they don't do that either. So, like you, I am hoping there will be a better outcome this weekend.

I'm glad to know that about Murray McMurray. I will not order from someone who won't ship early in the week. I will make sure that whoever I do order from actually ships on a Monday or Tuesday.

McMurray is scheduled with the PO to ship on Saturday and Sunday.....this is their prefered time. Their hatches are on Friday and Saturday. The shipping then is no different than shipping them on Monday or Tuesday. The mail runs everyday. I talked to them a few years ago when they first started shipping on the weekends and to the PO at the same time. Both said the same thing, there is no lag in the time, mail is processed and sent the same as any other day. I have had problems with other hatcherys as well with the arrivals of dead chicks, all the hatcheries I have dealt with have always made good on the problems....usually caused by the PO not them. good luck on your next shipment.
