Hi- We have 9 6 days old chicks (Our polish chick died yesterday) and our Brahma is having these weird episodes where she stretches and shakes her head and neck. Im not sure if they are seizures?? Heres a video of her doing it. Thanks in advance!!! ...

It looks like one of the many versions of wry neck, a vitamin E deficiency in new chicks. Treat with vitamin E oil 400iu.

But sometimes a crop issue can cause such gyrations. Check the chick's crop for impaction of food lumps due to not consuming enough water. Coconut oil would be the treatment.

Thank you so much- How do I go about checking the chicks crop? Mainly, what should it feel like? Also- would the "Natures Bounty" E-oil be appropriate to give her? Thats the only type of vit-E I have.

If it says 400 iu on it, it's what you want. You can break the capsule open and put it on something the chick will eat.

Feel the crop and compare it to the others. The crop is that bulge on the chick's chest just below the neck slightly off to the chick's right side.

We had this in some of our silkies and found out they were born with a vitamin E & selenium deficiency which causes severe neck twitching. We use the gel tube from tractor supply that’s a combination of both. It was cured in most except one silkie. She unfortunately has to have it for life and we give it to her weekly and it stops. Good luck with the chick and I hope this helps!
