Chilli is one of my two 8 wk old heritage Araucanas - she is bonded with the other, Ash. I love them both to bits. :love
As you know, Australia has been in drought for ages, but the last couple of days it has rained cats and dogs at our place - the coop is dry, but the air is pretty damp.
I bought them both on Thursday from a well respected and reputable breeder, they were very healthy...
but I went down in the rain to bring them their food this morning, Ash was as normal, alert and moving about (and noisy!) but Chilli was just standing there, fluffing up her baby feathers :(
What is wrong?
She still moves about to stay near Ash (if they can't see each other they go ballistic) but she keeps her head tucked in - except she occasionally lets out this hiccup sneeze?! Her nose is clear and her eyes bright, and I gave her a once over (not very through, we are going to church, that's why there are no pics - will post those later) and she looks physically fine, but she seemed more apposed than usual to being picked up!
What is wrong with my poor baby? :hit

What is her poop like? Coccidiosis possibly. I would get some corid and try it. It won't hurt
Getting them started on Amprolium ASAP is exactly what I would do as well. The fluffed up body, head tucked in and lethargic demeanor are all signs of coccidiosis in addition to the fact that you just got them recently and it's been raining.

I would also recommend getting some amprollium—probably called coxoid or amprol in AU, to start treatment of the water for coccidiosis. That is done for about 5 days, but read the label on dosage. Symptoms of coccidiosis can include not eating, being puffed up and hunched, runny poops with mucus or sometimes blood, being lethargic, and weakness. The sneezing is concerning as well. That might be something environmental or possible the early signs of a respiratory infection. Look for watery or bubbly eyes. Make sure the chick is drinking plenty of water.

Okay, I will look into amprolium and get a video for you guys.

Okay - I can't upload the video because mum is on the files computer - I don't think it is cocci...Hear me out, I took them a hot water bottle (I thought being cold might be part of the issue) and I checked her over, she is not unresponsive and seems pretty alert, her poop is good and her eyes and nose are clear. I checked her mouth for bad smells (she just smelled like adorable baby chicken - I love that smell) and it sounded like she was breathing through a thick layer of mucus! A really thick layer. Add it up to her occasionally panting and strangled sneeze hiccup thing, what do you think? She sounds really bad - please help! :hit

That sounds more like a respiratory disease. Those can be from mycoplasma (MG) or possibly infectious bronchitis (IB.)MG can be trested with antibiotics, such as Tylosin, oxytetracycline, or tiamulin (Denagard.) Those would be available through a vet. There are several other respiratory diseases, but the ones above are most common. Mold fungus can be another cause of breatjing problems from wet bedding. Make sure the brooder or coop is dry and clean, and there is good air ventilation.

It is a tin shed with no windows, but a huge door - and a leak in the roof, but the chick bedding is not wet - but the air is damp from the rain (I can't do anything about that) How can I know for sure what it is? Will she die without antibiotics quickly?!
