I have two ducks in my koi pond. I went out in my backyard and suddenly my grandson said to look at the baby duck in the pool. Yes, there is a baby mallard in my pool. Looks newly hatched and it was all alone. It tried to get out but couldn't.

I have looked all over my half acre for mom and the nest. Can't find it so we have taken it in. Will it eat and be ok if I treat it like a domestic duckling.

I know this may sound silly but I would really like any thoughts on this.

Thanks
Di

Keep it warm! until it has more adult feathers.

Hopefully you can get it and put it somewhere warm and light. It's baby feathers are not able to sustain it in water for long - they will become waterlogged, the duckling will get cold, tired and drown without its mother to clean/oil its baby fluff.

Thanks for the thoughts. Baby is now in a tub with a little nest made of hay. Food water and a hear lamp to keep the room toasty warm. He keeps peeping every once in a while. I do hope the little one does OK

Phew, sooo glad you got it out of the pool. I was expecting to see a post that the poor thing had drowned knowing babies can't stay in water too long. Good job and keep us posted on how it does.

Pictures would be nice too!!!!!!!!
