Hello! So I have a bit of a situation. My neighbors have once again got chicks, who will inevitably die of neglect. All of their past flocks have died either from starvation or predators, and I can’t sit back and watch this continue. I really want to turn them in for animal neglect, but my only hesitation is that im not 100% sure if chickens are legal in my area, and that they could retaliate by saying I have chickens as well. I can get proof once they cram them in their joke of a coop, but even so I’m not sure if anything could be done since they are just chickens. Has anyone been in a similar situation? Any advice of how to handle this would be very much appreciated! I’m tired of watching this cycle keep repeating itself! 💔 I live on the MS Gulf Coast, if anyone can help me find out the chicken ordinance, I would be so grateful. I want to help those poor chicks, but don’t want to get burned either.

Search online for your Municipality's website. Most Municipalities have their ordinances published online. It might take a bit of time to learn your way around their site, but you should be able to find something. Either a bylaw, or an ordinance, or regulation. Try that and if you need more help, let us know.

Okay I’ll look into that! Thank you! I’ve searched in the past, but couldn’t find a straight answer. Maybe now since chickens have got very popular in my city, they might have a clear answer now.

I was thinking the same thing. You may just be able to call City Hall and say you are thinking of moving there and want to know the law regarding owning chickens. If you are in Gulf Port or Biloxi, it may differ depending on how close to the coast you are. I would think you would be okay in Bay St. Louis or Waveland. Let us know what you find out.
As your neighbor in New Orleans, I am curious. Good Luck

That is an idea… maybe I can call from a friends phone so they won’t have my number 🤣🤣🤣 I don’t want to give away my exact area, but let’s just say Gulfport! My backyard is almost an acre long, the coops are cleaned daily, and I have no roosters, so it’s like come ooooon y’all seriously can’t expect me to rehome these birds when they are being so well cared for and not affecting my other neighbors! They are keeping the chicks in atm,so I have some time before their conditions get bad.

Btw happy mari gras! 💚💛💜
