You could alway's do what someone else did and put in your bra...... it has worked before.

I think you will be ok if you keep it warm and moist. Temp being 99.5 at least. I would wait awhile before trying to peel away anymore membrane or shell if you saw blood.

Post updates when there are any, we're all saying our prayers for you little Lucky guy. My guess- though I've never hatched anything- is that you probably saved his life if the shell was too thick for him to penetrate. There probably was enough air as he had lived this long, but still he likely wouldn't have pipped and zipped. Good luck Lollie!

Just thought I'd update you all...."he's" still sitting there...not doing a whole lot, but still moving. I've got to leave for a few hours, but I'll have my oldest son keep checking the moisture level. I've put something called a "hot heart" under the towel...it's this weird thing that you snap a little disc inside and it heats up. Stays hot for a long time. I'll post when I get back. Thanks for all the good thoughts!

Edited for typos.

...Yeah- I did the bra thing and hatched 2 chicks- but it won't work once you've got the shell broken.

It does not look as if its blood is retracted yet- you've got to give it more time. I like your set-up, but I think the light is going to make the chick dry out, so you'll be looking at a wet-dry-wet-dry situation and I don't think that's good for it.

Do you have any rubbermaid tubs or coolers? If you put a bunch of sealed jars of 105 degree water in a container you can *mostly* seal, then you can cover that container to maintain a consistent temp- further, you can use a warm wet towel on the bottom to keep the humidity up. Cover the container with plastic wrap or a lid and you have a fine temporary hatcher! The heat comes from a sizable thermal mass (the jars w/water), so it won't cool quickly.

I've found that when left like this, they can finish up on their own, so long as you rewet them occasionally. I fear with the light as heat in the open environment, you'll have a situation that won't allow it to finish because of the drying effect and the evaporation.
