Help... Advice Please!!

Sounds like your chickens are definately spoilt rotten!! Thank you for sharing your beautiful story about you and yout chickens!

I like you spoil mine rotten doin similar things to you really except the homemade yogurt but its on my to do list! Maybe you could share your recipe?

I totally agree that these chickens are pets with or without eggs, i am just a worry wart!!

I have two 14 week old pekin bantams (white layers).... two of hazels chicks 5 weeks old BSL crosses (i presume brown layers) not sure what they are crossed with. And im looking at getting a cream legbar x light sussex (green eggs) so there will be plenty eggs that are just a bonus!! I also look to be getting some quails!! Got a hut that were converting, then dont think ill have much room for anything else afted that!!

Being from a farm hazel is very docile and friendly but a little skittidh also... so iv been making sure i hand feed, pet her and handle her so she feels comfortable with me coming in and out of their free range area!

Thanks again for lovely posts and i wish you all luck with your flocks x

the homemade yogurt is very easy for me here in florida...I just place about a 1/2 a cup of finished yogurt in a clean quart jar add 1/2 cup of instant milk powder fill with raw milk and stir well(store bought milk will work however) place a coffee filter on the jar with a rubber band...I then place the jar in a pot of hot tap water and place on top of my refrigerator ...it is warm and draft free there...a few times a day I replace the water and stir contents....in 24 hours I have a full quart of yougert ready I use part for the chickens desert layering oats, fruit and yogurt...start the next days batch and eat the rest myself after a short straining...my cats and dogs get the few ounces of whey leftover as they love it.....in your part of the world you may need to buy a electric yogurt maker or use an old heating pad set to low with a ceramic casserole placed on top with the water and jars and top with a dish towel to keep the proper temp....yougert is good for all living things :)
