I had eight magpie mutt ducklings born yesterday morning - and three are just STRANGE! I mean they are acting like they are still in the egg!

What is this? How do i help fix it? Right now my mom and i are holding them with their necks staright, lightly massaging their little necks. HELP!!!!

Is it wry neck or Chlamydia Psittaci? I'm not real sure--have you done a search to see if the symptoms fit any typical diseases? Do you have any meds on hand just in case?

Goat Walker - that is so sad. You can try poly vi sol without iron but can they swallow or eat? I would suggest culling them if they cannot..poor darlings.

Poor little things, they were deficient in the egg. Good news is that I have seen reports of ducks having it and recovering. They need minerals and vitamins immediately. Niacin especially. Many of those items can be purchases at Walmart or at the feed store. Search this forum for this illness and you will find all you need.

They are peeping at me and im going to try and feeding and watering them myself. It almost feels like they dont have the muscles on the back of their necks. Ive NEVER culled or killed on of my ducks. ever. and i just dont know if I can....

Im going to try and care for these guys . As far as it being a disease - i was actually there when one was born and it just never came out of the neck under position. So i think its more of a .. lack of muscle?? Oh geeze you guys! I just have no idea what to do!

You can find Poly-vi-sol infant vitamins without iron (has lots of good, healthy vitamins to give them a boost) in the baby section of Wal-Mart. You can try using the dropper to drip it on the sides of their bills and see if they try to swallow it, or, if they are swallowing and trying to eat, you could try mixing it in some yogurt, maybe with a little honey for energy. Niacin (an important B vitamin in a duckling's development) comes in different forms - I get the tablets in the vitamin section (again, you can get them at Wal-mart) and crush them over my duckling's food...

I'm crossing my fingers for them!
