Oh my, I am so sorry! I was not expecting her to not make it :hit

But I have to tell you, you are an amazing owner! It made me so happy to read how much you care about your duck and brought her to the vet immediately. Very few people even consider bringing poultry to the vet or don't think that it's worth it. But I agree with you, my birds mean so much to me, and I would do anything to make them better!

So again, you did an amazing job, and I hope it helps to know that Sunni got the best life she could have from you!:hugs

Can you tell me @llombardo where the plastic was?

As a new duck owner I’m nervous about putting up vapour barrier for winter ,I wasn’t aware ducks could peck plastic to pieces ...

Would you please share so others can learn ? Sorry about your loss

I put plastic on the whole run and on the rabbit hutches.

They were drilling the bottom on the run but nothing was missing there.

They were pulling the plastic out of the rabbit hutches. The plastic was wedged between a gate and netting.

It may have been more out of curiousity then anything. I will have to look closer to see what was missing, because I shoved it all back in--so the majority of it was intact still.

I also wonder if going from the cold to warm might have shocked her body? If you have to acclimate them, then that would be from cold to hot and hot to cold. I can't get this thought out of my head.

Outside temps should not be a factor. Here in Alberta our weather is all over the place.

It's been in the 30s and she went from that to 70 degree house--that wouldn't be an issue?

It bothers me because last night she was breathing more like panting and I had mentioned it on here, because I thought maybe to warm.

I just can't stop crying here...I feel awful.

I should have just stayed up with her all night.

I'm sorry..Definitely don't beat yourself up. You did what was needed. Sometimes things happen to them that we can't control. I know you feel terrible and I seriously don't think it was your fault.

My heart breaks for you. I know how you feel. It's hard not to beat yourself up - but you really did do all the right things. Sometimes their little bodies just can't hold on....

The panting might have been from a blockage .... the plastic might have been stuck somewhere.

You did all you could have done and more , A professional gave their opinion , nothing more you could have done ,
But please move the plastic from their reach , put only wood or wire where they can reach .

My chickens were running around with a chunk of styrofoam this morning, like toddlers they find exactly what they shouldn’t .

Take care ❤️
