My Silkie rooster, my baby, isn't doing well. This started a few days ago, we had two little sizzle roosters and one wasn't nice at all. We kept them outside the fence so they wouldn't stress the girls out too much. Well, one of them, the meaner of the two, somehow got into the fenced in area and attacked my poor silkie rooster. Now, this guy has had problems since we hatched him, it looks like he seizes every-so-often. (This isn't the problem right now, but if anyone has any advice, please share. His head goes wonky and he kinda does a little shake, his head and neck do) So, because of this he got beat up pretty bad. One side of his face is swollen, a day goes by and now he looks worse. I picked him up and was looking at his eye and now he has puss in the corner of his eye. If you lightly press on his cheek it oozes out from his eye. I separated him from the flock and I've put him inside. I'm thinking that is is an infection from the bite, I put some vet rx around it, along with giving him a bit of a nutrient supplement in order to help stop it. I check on him this morning and now he's salivating and having a difficult time breathing, I know chickens aren't supposed to salivate. I get home from school and check on him. He's not salivating anymore but in his mouth he's got some weird puss stuff. This is difficult and quite nasty to explain. Its on the inside corners of his beak and it SMELLS. It smells awful, very, very awful. I've tried cleaning it gently with warm water, it wasn't working. I gave him just a small bit or oral antibiotics. It's kinda like the puss that comes out from his eye, its yellowish in color. Please, if anybody knows what this is, or any ideas on how to treat it, I'm desperate!

That looks like thrush to me. Chickens get yeast infections same as people. Add apple cider vinegar to the water and, if you can get some, try some antifungal. The other part sounds like it might have been an upper respiratory issue, and it again might be linked to the thrush.

If he was just in a fight and had pus coming out around his eye I think it more likely he has a bacterial infection rather than yeast. Chicken pus gets very inspissated (thick) and has to peeled out of his mouth. Tylan would probably be a good antibiotic and may still be available in feed stores. If his mouth is raw when you get the yellow stuff cleaned out you can try coating the area with raw local honey, if will help sooth and is antibacterial. You might try pinless peepers on your aggressive roosters.

A vet would be your best bet, but the yellow pus-like lesions inside the beak may be canker, especially since there is a bad odor. But infectious coryza is known to smell bad as well, and that is a bacterial respiratory disease that causes sinus infection, gunky eyes, coughing, and sometimes can cause yelow gunk inside the beak. I am not a vet, but I think canker might be more of the problem. Canker is treated with Fish Zole (metronidazole,) which may be purchased online. Dosage for a silkie would be about 125 mg daily for 5-6 days. Since you are a student, it might be best to talk it over with your parents about how to proceed. It is impossible to diagnose something from pictures and a description, and we are not vets. You can clean out the pus from the eye with saline eye wash from most pharmacies.

Here is some reading about canker, coryza, and a link for FishZole:

I'm a student in college, my parents aren't living with me. Around here we don't have any vets that help with chickens, the closest would be outside of our state and reading up on how much they charge is way too much for me to pay for. But thank you for giving me this information, I'll look for Fish Zole online.

Thank you for this! I'll try to get it all out today, I just hate having to hold his head even though it needs to be done. The little aggressive ones are gone now, they attacked one of our other silkies and we took them out quickly so they wouldn't feel anything. But again, thank you so much for this information.

Now he's got some white, maybe scars on his face. His mouth improved, I've been giving him very, very small amounts of tylan out of a syringe. It now spread to the outside of his beak?? It kinda looks like its eating away at it. I rubbed some vet rx around the outside of his beak, rubbed honey on the inside of his mouth when I got the sores, or whatever it was out. His eye looks kinda improved, just I'm worried about the whole beak thing.

Where are you located? Do you see scabs on his comb? I am wondering if you are dealing with fowl pox and wet fowl pox in his beak? It is always hard to see combs well in pictures, but looking back that may be what is going on. The wet form of pox looks like canker, but is inside the beak, thoat, airway, esophagus, etc. Pox is a virus which antibiotics are ineffective against. It is hard to tell wet pox from canker, but canker smells bad from what I have heard. But if you are in a warm climate with mosquitoes around, pox could be the problem.

I am located in New Hampshire, His comb doesn't have any lacerations.
