one more simple question...can I get the tubes and things at a local pet store like pet smart?

Or you could just go buy a kitchen scale at Walmart, Target, Walgreens, etc. While you're at it, stop back by the vet and get your syringe and tube then go to Petsmart or Petco and get the baby bird food.

She is in the yard and pecking around more than before. she isn't just standing around like she has been I am hoping and praying for a miracle. the vet did say her color was good.

Kathy, you said give her .5 ML for every 2.2 lbs and 1.4 ML for an average size chicken. the recommended dose for a 25 lb goat is 0.6 ML. is this correct? also do I mix any water or just straight wormer?

were a little confused on the dosage. for my hen would be .5ML and the bottle says for 25 lbs would be .6 right??

I know I sound stupid but I don't want to over dose or under dose. my husband just got home with the safe guard

What I meant was that an average size Wyandotte weighs 6 pounds (2.72kg), so the dose a chicken that size would get if dosed at 50mg/kg is 1.36ml, but I rounded up to 1.4ml to make it easier. A goat the exact same size would get .14ml (5mg/kg). Chickens get 10 times the amount that goats do. Does that make sense? Any less than 50mg/kg might not be effective. This is one of the reasons I suggested you weigh her.

Some people might say to give less, but that is what my vets told me to give *and* I've seen it as a recommended dose in *several* veterinary books, so I know it's a safe amount to use. I weigh everything in grams or kilograms because the math is much easier that way.

2.72kg X .5ml = 1.36ml


FYI, Safeguard is very safe and is used on kittens, puppies foals, calves, chicks, etc.

You will not overdose her if you give 1.4ml.

Oh ok I understand now. we were under the impression that she should get less since she was smaller. so, why does a chicken get a bigger dose?
