I have a small (silkie or bantam mix maybe) egg that I can’t find anything to answer my question. It’s one of 3 that pipped but had stopped chirping. My humidity was low so I gave them each a tiny breathing hole (just chipped pip point carefully) - this one had a drop of fluid come out. So I double checked, sure enough had pipped below the air cell. Wasn’t making any chirps any longer so I opened a hole above air cell. Membrane came w it. No blood, one drop. Veins look small and translucent. Gave him about 5 hours and went back. I can see movement of breath but no beak.

can he still breathe even if mis positioned? I put that egg on a wet paper towel to up humidity. The other two are resting and cheering away.
I’m assuming he is still resting.
I can see a very dark spot and light area (yolk sac?) when I candle the other side.
I believe I’m seeing a wing on the opening I made and chest moving. But his beak is not near the opening that I can find.

any advice appreciated. This is my first hatch (obviously)

What day are they on? What was your humidity? Low humidity wouldn't have caused them to need a safety hole. They can breath through incredibly small holes, I'm sure it's fine. It probably is just resting. Sometimes they can hatch even if malpositioned. Just keep an eye on it, feel free to just ask if you have any questions. I would read the guide to assisted hatching for all poultry, by Sally Sunshine. Don't assist yet though, if there's any blood at all, it's not ready. Keep humidity high, 65-70%

He’s breathing I can see it moving but no beak visible still (which is why I helped) even with the beak still not in position can still hatch on his own?

what if humidity is over 70% still ok? I have one successfully out temp is 100 even humidity 74%

Yup, that's a fine humidity to help the membrane loosen so he can hatch. How long has it been externally pipped? Can you post a pic of the egg without opening the incubator?

Not well. Just since last night late. I opened just around the air cell but it’s a pretty big opening. So it set him on a wet paper towel (bottled water only) still can see wing and breast moving in healthy breath pattern membrane doesn’t look dried out. My thought is to give him until tomorrow morning at least. As long as I see breath.

The one chick that’s out - it’s raising it’s head sort of gasping no sound, but moving around fine, still wet. Is that normal? I don’t want to open and get it out or move it until it dries. I think it literally just unzipped.

Here’s a pic of the egg in question I didn’t realize it was so close to the viewing window

When they do that its usually from too high humidity. You might want to take it down to 65%. I would take out the chick real quick, as long as your brooder is 95 degrees on one end it will be fine. Don't offer it any food or water. I agree, leave the one in question alone until tomorrow morning. It's a good plan.

I figured that was the case, opened the lid a bit and got it down. Seems fine now walking around and drying out

Update in case anyone is invested. I left him alone w wet towels to keep the humidity up. Finally when I checked them again he was cheeping loudly, I was able to wet the membrane back and push it down enough to finally find his beak. He’s still not ready to come out but he’s breathing good and cheeping now
