Help, one of my babies was born with stuff hanging out maybe egg yolk thing. Is there anything I can do??? Is there any chance she will live or is there no hope.
Please help be honest even if you think it is hopeless. I just kind of want to know what to expect.
Just had one come out like that and she's doing great. Its an umbilical hernia, its probably yolk. Your biggest danger is infection. Put some kind of drying agent/antiseptic on it. I use Wonder Dust and I highly recommend it, if you don't have any, they probably sell it at your local feed store and I would put iodine, betadine or (last choice) triple antibiotic ointment on it. But you really want to dry it up.
However, if it looks like it might be intestines, betadine that whole area up, betadine your hands or gloves and try shoving it back in. Yolk will be yellow with veins over it, intestines will be black or red.
im sorry for your little chick. hopefully its not intestine and its yolk. you can probably tell better than i. by looking closely
like someone said in post if it is intestine, MAKE SURE IT IS FIRST, then if your sure, you can try to get it back inside. keep her AWAY FROM OTHER CHICKS!!!!!!! they will peck on it and really cause her pain and problems!!! please let us know how she is doing and if shes making it. i sure hope she does make it!! my thoughts are with you. Good luck!!!!
I have a similar problem. My day old chick has an open belly with clear looking gel coming out. Also there is blood around it. Please help...any suggestions?
One thing I always keep handy when I have eggs hatching, is some wonderdust. It is antibacterial, drying and styptic (stops any bleeding).
It is normal sometimes to see some clear liquid around the umbilicus or what's left of the yolk sac. Some bleeding is also common. I always give the umbilical area a puff with wonderdust. Its usually available at any feed store or online at horse.com.
