Mama hatched 3 chicks 5 weeks ago ...only one made it --- she has been in the coop with the flock this whole time with just the 1 .....today the other hens have started MAJOR picking on this one !!! Cornering it ( yes, I have hidy holes availible ) and pecking on her !!! It will cause the Mama to go hysterical , chasing one hen around while the others continue the pecking ...... I finally took the poor baby out of there !! She is now with my lonley 3 month old ( who the flock did this too also ) ....Is this natural when there's only 1 baby in the flock ??

We have the same problem when we raise meat birds with layers they have what they call an anti-pick resin that you spray on the birds here's some links from mcmurry but I'll bet you could even find it cheaper if you just do a lil research.

Hope this helps

I have some partly grown chicks who were raised by broodies in the same flock with the adults. They don't get attacked that severely at all, but they are at the bottom of the pecking order. I've had mamas raise chicks in with the flock several times now. I guess it just depends on the flock dynamics and the personalities. Glad you had a place to put her, and another one to put her with.
