Help!! Black Flies... what do I do?????

and I was wondering if adding garlic[not garlic salt] to their feed would help. I do fermented feed and have been adding garlic to their feed for keeping flies and also mites off of everyone also feeding garlic to my dogs to see if I can keep the fleas off naturally. we are just warming up though so the verdict is still out, But may be worth a try. and Old Guy I use those vanilla things in my coops too.

Garlic!! Yes, I forgot about that. My sister puts it in for our chickens (for whom she does fermented feed) but I have never taken the time to do it for my ducks. Alright duckies, we're having Italian tonight!

You use car fresheners in your coop? maybe i need to try that but the smell... oye. I like sticky fly tapes BUT one year in the horse barn i caught a barn swallow in one! we got it loose, it was okay but er.. yeah, we stopped after that.

Hey I had one inside the coop hanging from the ceiling one of my Bantams got caught in it, so that was the end of those fly sticky things. never did figure out why she flew up there into it.
My bathroom smells like an Italian restaurant and has for the while fall and winter but soon I will be moving my ff out to the feed room.

Yikes! we never even gave thought to it, their always trying to build in the barn, outside fine, in? no way. Just crazy, i'd have not thought of a chicken getting stuck, they are brutal to get stuff off of. I like the idea of the freshener but i don't think the scent i can stand.

Only problem is the scent doesn't stay around long. I bought one of those plug ins [Glade I believe] and used the vanilla scent in it I think they smell good. but I don't get migraines either. She was stuck good too. took me awhile to get her loose.

I am super sensitive to scents, no perfume etc... and i bet it was! we had a heck of a time getting that poor swallow off of it, a big farm strip type. So still trying to sort alternatives there don't like spraying the horses with chemicals.
