For the life of me, I do not know how this critter got in my live trap. Our back yard is fenced/walled off, and spaces under the fence are closed off with hardware cloth. For a long while, the only things that could get in our back yard were cats, and they had to jump.

So here is this adorable black and white "cat" that got in our trap. He's the cutest, but I need to know how to get him out of the trap without getting sprayed. Also, how did he get in our yard? I thought skunks did not climb. What is the smallest space they can squeeze through?

Yes, I know. I used the word "skunk" in my post towards the end, if you had read the entire thing. I'm asking how to get it out.

The way it reads it sounds like you were questioning if was actually a skunk or not.

They typically dig in. They can squeeze through an opening a little larger than their head. So apx a 3-4 inch hole.

Thank you for the information! I walked around the entire back yard, and there were no holes. The largest gap in the fence was about a 2" gap where the chain link fence pole doesn't quite meet the garage. The chain link itself has slats in it, so there are no holes over a half inch there. I did not see any gaps or spaces larger than 2". I'm stumped.
