i am tired of this everywhere there are black widows im so scared of them is there any small species of game bird that will kill them all? will button quail do it? IF not any finch species ?

I've had the same problem with them this year. Personally I kill everyone of them I encounter. Right now, under my house is infested with them. The exterminator will be here Mon. to take care of those.
What ever you do NEVER poke one with a stick and make it mad.
When I was about 9 years old I thought it would be fun to harrass one with a long stick. Thats when I learned they can jump about 4 feet. AND land on your bare leg.

40+ years later I'm still glad no one was watching me do the spider dance. And I'm pretty sure I squealed like a girl too.

I have quite a few black widows around my house and I have been bitten by one about 7 years ago (I can still feel where the venom was when the weather changes). The best way to get rid of them is to step on them when you see them or to knock down their webs (no food = no spider). I only kill them in areas where children and pets are going to be, otherwise I leave them be as they eat other insects that I am not fond of. My chickens will not eat them.
As far as insecticide, black widows have the capability of shutting down their systems when they smell poison. Try a specific spider spray.
Good Luck

As for will one kill you. Probably not. Unless you are overly sensitive to the venom, but I've heard you may WISH you were dead for a few days after being bitten.

Milton, here's your brother-in-arms (lots of good info, too):

Excerpt: "Unless you're one of the good guys (we're talking about the extra sexy Black Widow of Marvel Comics fame [there's just something kinda nice about tight black body suits]), the black widow (genus Latrodectus) is one of the most feared spiders in North America. The image of that red hourglass on glossy black has been ingrained in our brains since childhood. For many people (myself included), the mere thought of black widows brings on an inextricable bout of terror. And yeah, I know, “spiders are our friends.” Bulls**t. The day a black widow spider brings me a nice bouquet of flowers instead of goosebumps is the day I call them friend."

I didn't realize eucalyptus and horse chestnuts repel them (the spiders). Learn something new every day here at BYC!
