Help!!! Bloody chick

Just had an idea but wanted to see if it would be safe. While I can't expand the brooder since it is a dog crate. It is tall so I can add a "loft" area in part of it to give them a bigger place to jump up to and in a way "expand" their brooder space. Would this be safe for them? I don't want them getting hurt trying to fly down or any other way. The crate is 42" long and 30" high. so I could maybe do like a 15" loft which will give them like 27" of space to jump down. and would add a 15"x27" 2nd floor.....

I was thinking of dirt since I read that so do I just dig up a clump of grass with dirt attached and put that in?
Yup, just dig up a clump from an area that hasn't had chemicals/fertilizers for a while and you can just toss that on the floor or put it in a small pan. If the grass in the clump is very long, trim it down a bit with scissors so no danger of them pulling out and eating a long blade.

As long as it's not too high that's a great idea, chicks love to get on top of things. Like literally a cardboard box with sides cut open (and corners left intact as "legs," so it makes a small table) would give them a lot of options to go up and down and around.

Not the best pic but made a loft for them. Gives a bit more room for them. Once MHP is gone they will have more room too. Heat is down to 2. Some sleep half out from under it so bumped it down again
