I noticed I was in need of chick feed, so I stopped at the TSC in another town. Saw the Dumor chick feed (same bag I've bought before) and bought it, slung it into the trunk and brought it home. Only to discover underneath of the words Chick Feed in really small type it says for turkey, pheasant, quail and something else. So CRAP! Can I use this? My chicks are about 15 weeks old, NH Reds. I looked at the bags of chick feed I have at home (the empty bags) and it says 23% protein good for chickens, turkeys, etc. This new stuff is 24%. Is it okay to use? I don't want to harm them. They are not laying yet.

Advice is appreciate.

Thanks in advance.

You shoudlnt use 24% you should only really use that for meat birds...umm lets see I use dumor chick starter and on the back it says you should use it till there 10 weeks and then use stater/finisher. you can use chick starter for ducks quails turkey chicks almost everything.

I use it for all of my birds and they are OK. I have Cornish X's, Guineas, Turkeys, Ducks and Chickens. One bag of 24% won't hurt them. The last thing listed is Chukar.

Take care,

Tami

It will be ok, the extra 1 % is not gonna hurt anything. Plus the extra methionine in game bird feeds will be beneficial to your chickens feathers..

I did the exact same thing yesterday!!
I took it back to the store and the clerk( who has 20 chickens herself) said there wouldn't be a problem using the higher protien blend. thats what she uses. A convenient bigger bag too

yeah just go ahead and use it...they wont mind im sure. You could always dilute it out alittle with some of the other feed you have ( if you have any left)
