I have a new Brinsea 190 Cabinet Incubator in my classroom. We have had it set up for 4 days. We wanted to make sure we knew how to use the incubator. It has been working fine. We have a humidity pump which is working fine. We have been collecting eggs for a few weeks and are ready to set them today. Today, the automatic turner is not working. I am trying to level out the trays so we can load it. I have read and followed the directions many times. My students have read the directions too. I have called the company to talk to tech support. The tech was busy and was to call back. It is now after 6PM on the east coast so I will not get a call until Monday, if then.

I have unplugged the incubator and am going to reset it to the factory settings. We did have a storm yesterday. I think the power went out very briefly last night. I am hoping that the did not fry the turner control. Everything else is working. Do you have any ideas?

Thanks,
Beth

Have you checked to make sure the turner setting in turned on? Maybe the storm did aggravate/mess it up. You have the manual? Maybe resetting the factory setting will fix it. I do know it does have a turner off/turner on mode.

One other thing you said----"we have been collecting eggs for a few weeks"? Really??

I have the manual and have read it numerous times. I have checked numerous times to make sure the turner was on. I have reset to factory settings and nothing. I unplugged it before I left tonight. I have 70 plus rare Speckled Sussex bantam eggs ready to go in the incubator. :(

Jump on Fb or Craigslist and see if someone has a couple Styrofoam ones you can borrow to get started----I would sure loan you one /two if you were in my area----then when you get the cabinet fixed and up to temp place the eggs in it. Don't give up.

Now about the eggs----Have you really been collecting eggs for several weeks----Hatch % goes way down after a couple weeks??

Thanks. I have some styro incubatorss I have used in the past. I am going to set them up tomorrow.

We started collecting eggs in late March. Used a pencil to write the date collected on each egg. They have been stored in egg cartons, in a coolish place, and rotated once or twice each day. We counted days today and removed the older eggs. Depending on how fast I get the incubators going, I may remove some more of the older eggs and add fresh eggs. It will be interesting for my students to see how the eggs hatch out, especially with the older eggs. I even had them weigh some of the eggs so we could chart the weight changes over the incubation. We are ready to candle the eggs too.

I am pretty frustrated as my 9th grade agriculture students have really bought into the science of preparing for the hatch and then to have the expensive incubator not work completely....We can go with our old styro incubators, but they are not as cool.

LOL---I understand. OK---interesting-----on the older egg experiment. Yea get those Styrofoam going---until you can get the other unit fixed. Maybe only a few days. Digital/electronic type incubators are Nice-----as long as they are working correctly---when they are not----makes you wish you had a older manual one----LOL. Good Luck

Incubator update:
I went into school today to get the styro incubators ready. I reset the Brinsea to factory settings one more time before getting out the other incubators. MUCH TO MY EXTREME RELEIF THE AUTOMATIC TURNER WORKED!!!!!! I was able to set 110 eggs. Fingers crossed!
