Help- broody chicken and no eggs made it

The one my dog dropped, it didn't crack or anything. It seems hopeful that it will still hatch. What if I go buy a couple brand new chicks? And just sneak them under her? Is that an option?

That can be done although you need to be on your game to ensure proper imprinting both ways between chicks and hen. New chicks ideally freshly hatched. I would introduce new chicks when lights go out and keep light levels low overnight.

My silkie has been sitting on some adoptive eggs for 17 days now. My expletive deleted dogs have been sneaking in the coop whenever the mama is out stretching her legs and eating her eggs, so she was down to 2 as of today. Until just now, when I spaced and left to coop door open when I was working out there, I came in for a few minutes and my husband caught my dog in the coop, he ate one and dropped the second on the way out

I put the one he dropped back in, is there any way it survived? If it didn't, will my broody just sit forever? Should I get her a new clutch to sit on? UHHHH I'm so mad at myself.

Sooooo, you let your dog run loose and eat your chickens eggs... I think there may be a solution in there somewhere....

Chain up the dog when working with your chickens....

Quote: Cover it in tabasco sauce maybe? This is a good idea. I worked with them today, had an egg out and taught them to leave it, I guess we'll see. We're going to fence in the back by the pop door tomorrow, poor silkie mama isn't going to have as much space as she used to, but I guess at this point she's supposed to be staying pretty close anyway.

Quote: Thanks! I've got a place nearby that does their own chicks, I'll call tomorrow and see if they have any that might be ready in a couple days. I don't have a light in my coop, so should I try to run one out there for introductions or is moonlight or lack thereof oK?

Make so flavoring is on inside of egg so surprise not noted until egg broken into. Then dog will be more skeptical of even checking eggs. I handle it by either having a psychotic hen run dog off or get onto dog whenever it gets into nest area.

Quote: They've only gotten an egg when mama was getting her break, they leave it otherwise. I honestly think he just swallows the whole thing, I don't think he'd even notice gross flavoring. They've never done this before, the dogs share the yard with the chickens and the eggs have never been a problem, so I don't know if they know there's something in there or if its because its warm from being sat on or what.
