I have a pullet who I'm pretty sure is debating on whether she wants to be broody or not, every time a rooster comes near her she puffs up, fans out her tail and drops her wings and runs away with a loud squawk she dose this to higher ranking hens to, to the lower ranking hens she grabs them by there hackle feathers and violently kicks them and pecks them!! The thing is she's this beutifull hen very nice and plumpy with really great feather quality and I don't want that to go to waste by her going broody plus she's starting to pick out her feathers and now she has a obvious bar spot under her tummy which I hate

how can I stop her from picking out her feathers and stuff she doesn't have a nest but she's sets anywhere for 30-1 hour then she'll get off and ignore everything then the next day shell take longer 1-2 hours sitting on nothing what could I do

Welcome to BYC! Please make yourself at home and we are here to help.

Some of the best ways to break a broody include: taking all eggs out of the nest, continually removing the hen from the nest, putting her in a separate crate with nothing to sit on, put a frozen water bottle in the nest under her, have bright light shinning in on her and try and annoy her.

These may seem harsh but to break a broody, you have to be more stubborn than she is!
