Help! Buff's comb is black, bloody and falling off!

Quote:
Try wraping her in a towel so you can hold on to her easier and you can kind of control where stuff..bluecoat .. goes when she shakes her head. Good luck.

I am close to the piedmont-triangle area. Be careful not to get the blue kote in her eyes. You could also use just plain old baby powder (the talcum type). You want to keep the wound dry and open to the air, so you'll have to separate her. If you can't find what you want at Tractor Supply, try a tack store (for horses). Anything you use on horses is fine for chickens (Imagine a chicken with a saddle on!). I like wonder dust, but you really have to watch out for eyes. If I can help or if you'd like my number, let me know, but people dub their cocks all the time and they do just fine, she will look a little funny when it heals though- dubbing is an art and if you don't get it straight and clean, you have a funny looking comb on your hands. I have a chicken with a big feathery flap sticking out on top of her head because she tried to scalp herself this spring and I kept thinking that the flap would come off, but it didn't. It healed sticking straight up and grew feathers all over it.

I switched from blue-cote to Soverign Silver (from Wal-mart). It's more expensive, but the healing time is twice as fast, & usually one treatment is all that's needed for wounds. It's also good for sicknesses too.
