Help! Can't remember name of vampire novel-FOUND IT!

I read it and totally forgot the title and the author.

Historical setting. It involved a royal court and a young man who goes to the court on behalf of his uncle (?) and he thinks he is recovering from a plague, but he was really turned it to a vampire....

Sound familiar? I have done all kinds of googling and can't find anything. It as a recent novel and is part of a series.

The female lead character was royalty. French??? NOT a vampire. Sent to be a spy....

I wish I wasn't getting so senile! LOL

If I remember correctly, the book jacket gives NO CLUE that this is a vampire novel.

Random things I remember in the book...

Him getting sent to a crappy room in the basement because he made some toady mad.

His crate of potions that he tries to keep hidden.

Women in an elaborate gown on the cover.

Lead character being forced to spy because she was so much of a trouble maker in her own country...

Nope. 80% sure it was a female author. Could qualify as a romance type of book.
