hey everyone so , i bought an incubator this year to see if i could hatch some of my own eggs from my chickens. its day 11 and i tried candling them and they are porous eggs, when i do candle them i see only a black area within the yolk and no veins, sometimes i do happen to see a vein but not so clearly. do you guys think my eggs with still hatch?

- thanks in advance

Hi, hope you are enjoying BYC! :frow

Ideally you should not candle between days 10-14. But what color are your eggs? The darker you can make your space the better you will be able to see into the egg. My cell phone light sometimes works better than others to see inside. Sometimes a double light will help.

These are nice dark egg candling pics...

How old are your birds? If this is your first time, I suggest that you stay the course until you know for sure especially if eggs are hard to see into. I have cracked open live embryos before. :sick

Are you able to post a pic of what you are candling?

What incubator are you using and what are your settings? Are you using a calibrated thermometer/hygrometer? If not, your eggs may not be as developed as you expect.

i have a a couple different eggs from different hens two eggs are from older hens that got from some people who did not want them anymore they are about 3 years old and some are from chicks that i have raised about a year old. also i am using a Chinese incubator, its this one from amazon,

i have check with two thermometers and two hygrometers to make sure the values are correct and also have a secondary one in the incubator just in case. these are the pics i have 6 eggs had seven but one was rotten and smelt bad so i took it out. i think only 4 out of the 6 might be fertile but they don't smell rotten so i might just keep them in there, and also my eggs colors are brown, greenish also thank for replying :)

They all look like they are developing to me! The first one though im kinda on the fence but leaning more towards its developing!!

They appear to be developing to me too. Sometimes it's hard to see the development. Here is a not so good video of a chick moving around in an egg. It's a little blurry because I was holding the egg and candler in one hand and the camera in the other hand. Good luck and have fun...

I have that incubator and it is the BEST! I have had it running pretty much continuously since January. I hatch, clean it, let it dry for 24 hours and fire it up again. Hatches near 100% every. single. time.
Your eggs look good. Last time at hatch I dropped the lid on two eggs and crushed them, killing the chicks inside. The lid is slippery plastic and doesn't really have a handle area. Just a word of warning.
