Hi everyone,
Please help me, I can't choose what breed I want to get.
I would welcome any suggestions.
So this is what you can do: post pics of the chicken breed you recomend, tell why, and your experince.
Here are the charactarstics that I am looking for.
1. Very friendly.
2. Doesn't lay much
3. Bantam or Standard
4. Goes broody often
5. Good mum
6. Good dad
7. Not heavy on feed

I'd say Silkies would fit your bill. Personally, I don't like them (prefer normal feathered birds), but many folks do and they are usually super-broody. Bantam Cochins would also do it for you, though my only one is a good layer when she isn't broody. Her eggs are so small that you'd need 3 to make one large egg, so I'd say that equates to not being overrun with eggs.

Get thee some silkies.

Silkies or Seramas. You are the first person I've heard of who wants a bird who isn't a great layer!
I hope you find the perfect chicken!

I bet there are some interesting chickens in SA, that are not present in EU or US.

Yip you are right but it is "really hard" to find the breeders. Like there is no quarinetine hatchery in South Africa. And its expensive too.

if you are looking for a neat bird, the sultans are pretty cool, and the polish ones also. I have silver lace wyondottes that lay ok and want to go broody all the time! my cochins also have been very broody, hatched out chicks 3 times for us this summer.
