AAAHHHH! That makes total sense, about the membrane! Thanks for the good wishes! I will be posting updates!Wishing you good luck with the baby! The oil on the membrane looked that way because it makes the membrane see through. The chick is likely a dark color and you are seeing it through the membrane.
Please keep us updated!
Thanks so much!interested to see how you get on. good luck![]()
Pyxis!! Thank you for checking on us! Well, I'm really not too sure. I have it in a box, there's a heating pad in the box, a dishtowel over that, the eggs on top, a small container with a wet washcloth in there, and the heat lamp above it. I was worried about it being too hot, but Sylvie was worried about it being too cold. This is my first time trying to hatch ANY eggs! No mama was in sight. That baby in the cracked egg is still moving from time to time, and one of the other eggs pipped this morning! I was SO surprised! We have no idea how long it was sitting out there, and my heating set up is 50% at best. I think if that cracked egg chick was going to die due to the hot or cold, it would have already. What do you think? It is in my bedroom, so there is air, but its not drafty. And I am on the Big Island of Hawaii, so it is very humid, and the temps are mild, 70 right now, and it is 11:24 am.Checking in! How is the egg doing now?
I too have never seen a membrane turn purple when oiled, I'm not quite sure why that happened.
Oh my I'm so sorry I disappeared last night I waited around as long as I could but fell asleep as it was after midnight here.
Glad @sylviethecochin stepped in to help you. Thank you.
I think that the chick may have had some bleeding with what ever happened to the top of the shell. I think that is why it looks purple when you can see through the membrane.
As long as the bleeding isn't severe it should be okay but may have some membrane stuck to it.
Please keep us up to date and I hope your chickie makes it!
So cool! These chicks are very lucky to have you guys saving them!![]()
