HELP!! Chick hatching!

Checking in! How is the egg doing now?

I too have never seen a membrane turn purple when oiled, I'm not quite sure why that happened.

Oh my I'm so sorry I disappeared last night I waited around as long as I could but fell asleep as it was after midnight here.

Glad @sylviethecochin stepped in to help you. Thank you.

I think that the chick may have had some bleeding with what ever happened to the top of the shell. I think that is why it looks purple when you can see through the membrane.

As long as the bleeding isn't severe it should be okay but may have some membrane stuck to it.
Please keep us up to date and I hope your chickie makes it!

Wishing you good luck with the baby! The oil on the membrane looked that way because it makes the membrane see through. The chick is likely a dark color and you are seeing it through the membrane.
Please keep us updated!
AAAHHHH! That makes total sense, about the membrane! Thanks for the good wishes! I will be posting updates!:fl

Pyxis!! Thank you for checking on us! Well, I'm really not too sure. I have it in a box, there's a heating pad in the box, a dishtowel over that, the eggs on top, a small container with a wet washcloth in there, and the heat lamp above it. I was worried about it being too hot, but Sylvie was worried about it being too cold. This is my first time trying to hatch ANY eggs! No mama was in sight. That baby in the cracked egg is still moving from time to time, and one of the other eggs pipped this morning! I was SO surprised! We have no idea how long it was sitting out there, and my heating set up is 50% at best. I think if that cracked egg chick was going to die due to the hot or cold, it would have already. What do you think? It is in my bedroom, so there is air, but its not drafty. And I am on the Big Island of Hawaii, so it is very humid, and the temps are mild, 70 right now, and it is 11:24 am.

Ok BYC fam, for those who are following this thread and posted comments, THANK YOU! I appreciate y'all so much! I have raised up chickens since I was a little girl but never have I hatched any eggs. No matter how this turns out, I've already learned so much, and this situation has ignited my passion for learning more! I don't ever want to be caught off guard and ill equipped like this again!
As for the eggs, That one that was totally cracked remains how it was lastnight. The outside membrane is broken, but the inner membrane seems to be intact. I am worried that it is too dry. It looks really dry. But, that chick is still moving around some. The three other eggs that my daughter brought in, was still until this morning! I just so happened to be looking at the eggs, and I saw one pip!! I was so surprised! I didn't think any would survive, let alone hatch. We have no idea how long the eggs were sitting out. But sure enough, a tiny break, and I wouldn't have believed if, if I hadn't seen it with my own eyes! No other movement since.
This is how this came about. My hens would go to an old coop and lay in boxes in there. Then, we had a big ole wind storm, and totally wrecked the coop. I didn't have the funds to fix it just yet, so I put the nesting boxes in the garage. That worked great for a while. Then, the the girls decided to hide their eggs! I've got 2 acres, but they mostly stay on about an acre and a qtr or so, the rest is pretty big bush. So, my keiki (kids) go out to find the eggs. Well, my oldest son cut down some big grass that was threatening my Gardenias, and I think he exposed a nest that we didn't know about. My youngest daughter, in her hunt for eggs, picked them up, not knowing that they were not fresh. No mama was around. So, she brought the eggs, and told me that one was cracked. I told her to throw it out. When she did, she cracked the top, and was HORRIFIED to see a chick moving!! Poor thing (she's 10), was in tears, thinking that she had killed it. So we went through all the eggs she collected, candled them all, and they were all clear, except for 3 that she brought me, that she thinks was from the same "nest". Now, keep in mind, that I got all of these hens (about 26) from Tractor Supply when there were chicks (our only store that sells chicks on my island). They were supposed to be all hens. I ended up with one Bantam rooster, Harry Potter, that in turn bred one of my Australorps, Robert the Doll, who in turn had 7 chicks 3 died, and I was left with 3 new hens and one more Rooster, who I haven't named yet, who I didn't think was old enough to breed. I was wrong! So here we are, trying to save 4 unhatched chicks!

Thank you so much, @chickendreams ! I know it was very late for you, I appreciate all your help! I was still trying to get dinner made, homework done, and kids cleaned, fed, and ready for bed when all this craziness was going on! The bleeding had stopped right after that shell cracked, and has not shown any new signs of bleeding since. I am just worried that the membrane is too dry. I will post pics now, and try to get another one in better light.

As you can see, the shell is wrecked on that first egg, and little pieces seem to be falling off everytime I move it. The other pic is of the egg that pipped this morning. And that's my make shift "incubator" set up. Any advice on what I should be doing, is greatly appreciated!!

So cool! These chicks are very lucky to have you guys saving them!:pop

I sure hope they make it! I've been talking to my daughter all night, explaining to her that sometimes we can't save a baby, but we have to do all we can, and try out hardest, and then we will know that we did our best. :fl:fl:fl
