Move all the others but one, have a helper carry that one around (it should be upset being carried so it gives the 'alarm' ) and listen for the other one?
Mine got out of the brooder the other day and I normally have the garage door open all day for them to help with the smell.
Luckily that day we were getting bad storms and I hadn't opened the door. Some neighbors came by and wanted to see the chicks.
I was pointing out the different breeds and the ones I had named so far and realized Stinky (RIR that
stink bugs) wasn't in there!!
We counted every1 3x cuz I couldn't figure out how she would even get out!
Then my neighbor turned around and pointed and said Is that her?? I look and Stinky is sitting in a flower pot in the corner of the garage hunting bugs!!
I was so happy to find her so quickly and easily!! I was so thankful to the neighbor for finding her too! Darn little stinker!
This is strange- she is still lost!!! I wasn't too worried last night, because I thought when I woke up this morning, she would be by the food and water I set out, but the food and water hasn't been touched. I would think I would be seeing poop around the basement if she's wandering around, but I haven't. She must be holed up in a corner somewhere. FireTigeris, yes, I carried a noisy chick around the basement through the rooms, but I didn't hear any reply chirps. When the rest of my family gets home from vacation today, we will have to do a thourough search and see if we can find her. Thanks.
Not sure how finished your basement is, but is it possible she could access ANY pipes or drains? I know at that age they're pretty big, but if you're not seeing/hearing any signs of her, I'd be worried about possible access out of the basement somehow...
Also, do you have any 'pet predators' in the house? Dogs, cats?
