Ok... my hen has been sitting on eggs since March 28. It’s been over 21 days. I noticed today one egg actually pipped. She stopped sitting on it. I checked it later and it had a white sack inside. You could see nothing but a white sack. No veins. I was told to use a qtip and gently put some water on. Then I checked and the sack is filled with something. It has veins in it. Something moved inside the sac. However if it pipped why isn’t the internal membrane cut??? I’m so confused. What do I do? I’m so scared it’s dying. Photo of what’s inside. A sac filled with fluid and something moving looks like. And veins of course. Help!!!!! I put it back under the hen and she’s sitting on it but I’m afraid something is wrong....

I don't think it's a pip either. Looks more like the shell got broken, perhaps by the broody. Depending on how far along the egg is, it might still be okay. Did you block off the nest after she started sitting, or could the other hens have laid newer eggs under her?

Should I do something to it if it’s accidentalky broken??? Like put something over it? These were all from March 28. She is inside and separated from other hens but she could have broken it. She gets on and off the nest.

So today is day 22? Usually eggs under a broody would hatch on day 21, but they can be late. If that was a pip, the chick would have already been in the air cell and you would clearly see the beak, and it would be peeping too.

Are you sure it's alive? Can you perhaps candle it and post a picture of that?

I thought it was dead but when I looked at it it moved?? I have a lame flash light.. I can’t really see anything but darkness aside from the air cell. It looks like something big is in it. My other eggs look the same but no pip. I had a rotten one and threw it away a week ago. Before the dark mass they were all developing as normal.

Since it started at March 28 -- it's actually day 26. At this point the eggs must not be going to hatch? Maybe she got off of them too much? She's getting really skinny too and I'm worried about her.

What you saw moving could just be sloshing around as you move the egg. Put your fingertip to the hole and feel for actual movement. Hope its ok!

Yes it moved. But I feel like at this point it would have hatched? I don’t know. I’m afraid it won’t make it since my broody isn’t keeping it warm.

Tough call, but if she isn't staying on it, then it definitely will not hatch. I'd be inclined to go ahead and remove it. Unless she throws a total hissy fit.
Can you get a better light to candle with? Cell phone lights are often work well.
