This is the first time we have incubated eggs and our first chick hatched and still has his/her umbilical cord attached. The cord was still attached to the egg as she tried to walk and ended up pulling on it and making herself bleed. We got the cord unattached from the egg but the cord is still attached to her. Has anyone else had this happen? What do we do? Thanks.

Unless it is bleeding a lot, or she has a hernia where it attaches to her body, she should be fine. it will dry up and fall off on it's own. Keep the area clean. You might gently swab the umbilicus with a bit of betadine. The fact that she is walking bodes well for her. Does she have any protruding yolk sac?

This is the chick. It's our very first time incubating. As you can see from the picture the umbilical cord is still attached and there is some sort of wad.
