i made an incubator from a poly box and a bed side lamp. at the start the temperature and the humidity was fine. i bought some eggs off ebay and put them in the incubator. the temperture in the incubator flucated quite a bit so i deciced to buy some 10 week old won instead but i left the incubator on with the eggs in just to see if anything would happen. on the 21th day the picked the egg up cuz i deciced to chuck the eggs away. the egg cherp and started rolling. 2 days on nothing happen. and i read on the net that they might suffocate. so i opened the egg carefully and there was a baby chick in there he was nearly formed. but his bum was all yellowly and gungy (like the yolk of the egg was attach to his bum (he had feathers and skin, apart from the bit on his bum). the chick wasnt alive. it may of been because i killed it by accidient. but i candled another egg and and about 75% of the egg is black and has a air bubble at the top. how long do u think it will take for this one to hatch it is the 22nd day 2day?

If this happens again dont open the egg too soon. Chicks need to peck through the egg and emerge themselves, it is part of the development process. The struggle helps them gain strength in their body. There is an air sack in there for them to breath until they get pecked open. Anyone else have thoughts on this?

If the temperture fluctuates then the hatch day could be off. Don't forget to keep the humidity higher for the last 3 days. 65-75 or higher depending on if you live in a dry climate.
First you should get a pip and then they will zip. Mine took 12 hours to get it finished.
Good luck
