Help! Chicken had a sliding door shut on her neck!

Give the E and B Daily.

I've shut the run door on a hen's head before and it doesn't feel good to do that, so don't beat yourself up, this was an accident. I hope your little one recovers, just give her a bit of time and see how it goes. :hugs

I gave her the b and e for today. She fought me a little so I think she is feeling a bit better. She is still not moving around though. my plan thus far is to syringe a tsp of the vitamin electrolyte water every 2 hours until she starts moving around again once a day with the b and e. I’m leaving her completely alone tonight and covering the basket with a black cloth until morning. If anyone is aware of an issue with my plan so far please let me know. Thank you again for all the help.

She is doing so much better today! She is still not moving around a lot but she is responsive and she ate. She didn’t have any interest in her pellets. She wouldn’t eat scrambled eggs. I popped open some tuna and I think the smell revived her a bit and she went to town on the tuna almost eating half of the can! Oddly I couldn’t find any bruising on first look. To be honest though I didn’t look to long so I didn’t stress her out more. I gently felt her neck and I didn’t feel any fractures but her neck does seem to slightly cock to one side. I am considering a neck brace at this point but I’m not sure as she is moving her head around. She just seems hesitant to extend it fully. I think I’ll leave her to rest in the basket at least another day. There is no room for the kennel in the safety of my closet. When she moves to the kennel she’ll need to be able to endure the noise of my rowdy kids and my cat staring at her. I figure she should stay in her warm dim place until she is a bit more active. If she isn’t on her feet by tomorrow I’ll start range of motion exercises to help prevent atrophy. I know she will be ok now. She just needs a bit more tlc. I’m still open to suggestions but I know that with care and time she will come back around to normal. As I was writing the last sentence I looked over and she is standing!!! She is wobbly but standing. Thank you all so much for your help. I think after this incident I’ll be making a chicken first aid kit that includes d and e as well as the normal stuff. Thank you again so very much

This site is a gold mine if information. I spend a lot of free time reading the articles and threads. It's very helpful!

She passed away tonight. She was doing well. She still seemed a bit dazed but she was eating and drinking. In fact she was eating a lot. I have been focused on a tragedy that happened early this morning and I didn’t notice she was getting a severely impacted crop. It’s the size of a golf ball and so hard. Today has not been a good day at all.
