HELP....CHICKEN HAS HAD WATERY POO FOR A LONG TIME AND NO IMPROVEMENT

THANK YOU!!!

Okay, I found a 1.0 mL syringe!! It clearly has .2 on it! Thank you!!!

But, I also found this dosage on another thread - is this below the same dosage as .2 mL just using the first syringe? Because I read that cc = mL, is that correct? Just trying to clear all of that up for anyone else who uses this thread to help their chickens. Thank you!!!

Kathy - If this is the problem, how long would it take to see improvement? She is still wasting away at this point. Should I give her the Valbazen tonight or wait until morning? She's inside and the lights are on, so she is still eating and drinking and pooping. It does look a little better I think - not that would know what is better - it smells for a change and is more brown than green and has some white in it like normal poo and a few small clumps instead of all grainy. It looks like a lot less water as well. I'll post a photo because I think that will help others in the future as well...perhaps it is just closer together and not spewing as much. That may be her giving out rather than getting better...

Use a syringe without the needle: 1/2cc for standard size, 1/4cc for smaller chickens. Dosage is given orally.

Do you have a way to weigh her, like on a kitchen scale? I'm very anal about dosing, so if you can weigh her that would be best. FYI, an average size RIR hen would get .6ml.

She is a rhode island red I think or some say a rock something (again, she was a birthday gift from an auction house) - she is normally probably 5 lbs as the top of the pecking order and first choice and plenty of everything, but with all the weight she lost maybe 3 lbs now. On the scale (regular human one) she is registering at 3 lbs.

So should I do that wormer tonight? And if .2 for 2.2 lbs. how much for 3lbs.

Here is Jasmine - the poor abandoned hen I got almost two years ago. The auction house had just gotten both of the hens in, but they were the only two he had so my brother and sister-in-law got them, because they have traded and gotten many of their chickens from this guy. They held them for 5 days with their chickens (who never got sick either) and by the time my birthday came around (5 days later) they had runny noses and stunk so bad out of their noses. Even my step-daughter noticed the look in Jasmine's eyes when she got her (her eyes look mean, she said) and then within a couple of weeks, she lightened up so much. Even now that she is well cared for, she doesn't like humans much. Thanks so much for helping her. I really hope this works. Sorry she moved her head.

How fast would I see a change if this is the problem? Is there anything I can do to help her stay strong?

Jasmine says thank you to all of those who are helping on Backyard Chickens. She never thought in all of her life that so many human beings would care about her and her condition. She's really starting to think that people are not that bad and whoever came up with that rescue recipe - yummy!

Okay, I gave her just over .2 mL - it was already marked there for the ivermectin from the vet for the small birds.

If everything is running through her, I don't know how this won't run through her as well.

No one answered about how long I give to see if there is improvement before I do something else????

I will keep you all posted. Jasmine and I are depending on the community for help. Thanks so much.

Over and out, it's tomorrow here already...

You do know that the kind of worms that get in you internally are not anything to do with earthworms right??
You are incorrect. Earthworms have everything to do with intestinal worms since they are common vectors of Ascaridia galli (roundworms) and Heterakis gallinarum (cecal worms) which are known to spread Histomaniasis aka Blackhead disease. Let's not forget capillary worms (small roundworms that cause bleeding of the intestinal tract), and tapeworms carried by intermediate hosts such as earthworms, slugs, snails, flies, and beetles. Thus, the recommendation of Albendazole in Valbazen suspension which eliminates all of those worms just mentioned, including gape worms.

Gave the wormer last night at midnight - this is her poo about 24 hours later...

There does seem to be improvement as far as mass, but still a lot of water coming out.

Does this look like that was the issue - Kathy?

Or, do you think it would still be coccidosis?
