I have a Silkie chick born October 21 with messed up legs. When it hatched it had feet that were folded under itself, we fixed it by making little boots to straighten his toes. It worked for the most part but now his legs are spread apart to far making it hard for him to walk and his toes are curling back under. How can I help straighten the chicks legs?

I too was going to recommend the above blog post. I don't have any experience with spraddle leg in my flock, but it doesn't seem to be terribly uncommon. I would also research discussions with that search term on BYC.

I'd be interested in knowing how your little chick does with treatment. Would you please keep us posted?

Hi @kinsiebrooke
You have received some great links and suggestions from the other posters.

I'm inclined to think that she has a leg bone deformity like Varus Valgus, twisted tibia or similar. This can be caused by genetics, mineral deficiencies in parent stock or possibly improper incubation. Unfortunately, trying to correct these deformities is usually not successful.
Some people "wait and see" how it goes, you can definitely give the B2(Riboflavin) and tape the curled toes to see if that helps with the feet. Depending on your goals, it may be kinder to cull, you will not want to breed this chick.
