went to check on my buff hen a few minutes ago, and I found her just standing, and she has a very enlarged behind. I don’t think it’s egg bound, because I think it’s too big. Almost like it’s filled with liquid like a giant pimple. But it is somewhat stiff. What should I do? She’s not going out, or really doing anything. Just noticed it today.

Please post a photo of her bum bum, it helps with identifying the issue.

Are you saying her whole lower belly under her vent is swollen and tight or hard? Please post a clear picture. Is she pooping? How long ago was her last egg? She might have water belly, but pictures may help us.

No, her backend (her bum) is swollen I guess. Can’t take photos right now, if she’s okay in the morning I will it’s night right now. Yeah her butt (vent) and around is is swollen and tight. She is pooping, very watery though. I believe she has water belly too, I’ve had a chicken a few years ago that had the same symptoms but I forgot what happened or what I did for her. Thank you for your reply!

Look for any yellow urates (the normally white cap) in her droppings. Post pictures. Is her crop emptying by early morning, or does she still have food in it? I usually don’t drain my hens who have water belly, but it can help temporarily if they are having labored breathing.
