I'm new at this. I have 8 chickens and want to worm them, but the Wazine instructions leave a lot to be desired. They have instructions for 100 chickens 2 oz. Wazine in two gallons. How do I mix for 8 chickens (1 oz in 1 gallon so they drink all of it?). How many days do I give it to them and how long before I can eat the eggs? Additional information is much appreciated.

Welcome to BYC. Wazine dosage is one ounce per gallon of water for 24 hours only. Put it out first thing in the morning before you let your chickens out of the coop. They will be thirsty and will readily drink the treated water after eating. It must be their sole source of water to drink during the day. Discard the treated water after they go to roost for the night, then provide regular freshwater for them for the following day. There's a 14 day slaughter period after using wazine. If the chicken is okay to eat after 14 days, so are the eggs.

Dawg has you covered with the Wazine. If you have any further questions, feel free to ask.

Make yourself at home and welcome to our flock!

Welcome to BYC! Dawg has done a great job answering your question about the Wazine. If you have any other questions, please feel free to ask. What kind of chickens do you have?

Three mutts and 5 domineckers, so they say. They were ordered as Domineckers, but someone told me they were not. Could be Plymouth rock, Barred rock, etc. I can't tell the difference. I'm starting small so I don't risk killing a whole bunch of them while learning. They have a 12x12 coop and about a 30x30 yard. Due to possums, coons and people who let their dogs run wild, their quarters are pretty secure. I'm doing this for meat and eggs, not for show. My older neighbors love free eggs and I have canned 16 roosters for another chicken person who hatches his eggs. So far, the biggest pleasure from chickens is just watching them.

If they are black and white barred chickens, look at their combs. If they have rose combs, they are Dominiques. If they have single combs, they are Barred Rocks. If you want us to help in identifying them, post some pics of them, preferably full body profiles showing legs and tails. Good luck with your flock.

I have a question regarding this. I have used it in the past, but I was always under the impression when using this product that you had to be very careful about overdosing or underdosing the birds. On a hot day, they may drink much more water, so I thought you were supposed to only put out so much medicated water per bird. The directions given work out to 1.28 oz of medicated water per bird at 4 to 6 wks of age. That's not much at all and I usually have to check about noon and see if it is all gone, which it usually is. Then I refill with plain water. So, is this not the way it works?
