HELP!! Constipated Dutch Bantam

Hi all,

My little hen Massey seems to be constipated. She fluffs up her feathers wings hang and scrap the ground, very lethargic walking, pulses up and down as if she's passing faeces or an egg. I doubt an egg as she had stopped for the winter here in Ireland. She's just plain uncomfortable. Thanks in advance!!!

I would put a glove on and check about an inch or so into her vent and make sure she isn't egg bound, even when its extremely cold sometimes they'll still produce and if egg bound it can cause a lot of distress.

If shes not egg bound I'd make she shes not dehydrated and had plenty of warm (not frozen) water.

Hi all,

Thanks for the kind replys. We visited the vet today and massey got an oxytocin and calcium injection and seems a lot brighter. If she's not good tomorrow she will go back down. I'll let you know how she gets on.
