Help-Converting playhouse into coop-How much shade do I need for run.

I've got 3 coops/runs nestled in some trees about 20' from the house. Keep in mind if you put them out in the open that it is going to be awful hot for them even if you cover the run. I really don't think it is going to matter predator wise. If they want them they will try to get them no matter where you put the coop/run.

I have 2 coops and they are about 5 feet from our large woods but the chicken yard itself is a fenced area 30 x30 with a corner that includes some of the woods--they love to go under the trees and small woody shrubs and hang out--that is where they dig holes, dust bathe etc, so the rest of the yard they just graze in and don't really tear it up. It is a great place to run for cover when hawks fly over and they are always under the trees in the heat of the day. So, I would include some wooded area in your chicken yard if possible. They will love it.

Thanks! I guess it is near the woods for my coop! Now to design the inside of the coop and build the run using a 10x10 dog lot. I have never done this before...hope I do it right. Thanks for the help! (I have 3 Milli Flur D'uccle, two silkie, 1 serama, 1 golden seabright, three polish, and two cochins)
