HELP DAY 21 AND NO HATCHING!

Thanks for all your help! I am going to try to figure out if I can candle from the outside. Since I will be investing in a decent incubator an this one is styrofoam, I may cut out part of styrofoam to fit flashlight in then do it that way and just replace piece from the side when I am done. That way I don't open it up from the top and let all the humidity out! What do you think? I can try to get both done at once. Candle and leave them in.

Ok, so I candled all 3 of my eggs and couldn't see a thing moving inside. I water tested all 3 and only one moved. I put that one back in incubator, and the other 2 I waited and waited for them to move. Unfortunatly no movement at all and one looked like it had water in the aircell( before I water tested them)
So I opted to let those go. I opened them up and was surprised, and quite sad to see that the were really far along, they just hadn't absorbed the yolk.
That was very hard on me, I won't ever open up another egg that far along.

It is hard, but it can be very useful in determining what went wrong (if you know what you are looking at/for) so you can fix it for the next hatch. Sorry.

Awww I'm so sorry. And there are probably many of us that have said that they would never open another, but it does get easier. No less heartbreaking, but easier, because of the value learned.

Thank you. In the meantime how long should I wait for this other egg? It was clearly alive when I did the float test, yet nothing so far!! It's a maran egg, so very dark.

Well, it is definitely pushing the limits of viability, I believe. What day are you on now? 25-26? Were any other others that have already hatched in this batch marans? I've never hatched them before, but I know they are dark eggs. It might be time to make a small opening in the air cell, and see if it will progress.
