We are incubating 14 duck eggs; Welsh Harlequin, Fawn White Runner and 3 of our own. We bought the WH and the FWR from a hatchery so we really need the eggs to hatch. It is Day 28 (starting from the day we put them in). Humidity and temp was monitored through incubation. Humidity is at 80% while in lockdown now. We candled them the night before we put them in lockdown and they were all moving. Yesterday they were rocking in their eggs but none have started to pipe. I havent checked for internal piping, is it too late to check now? Anyone else have late hatching of duck eggs? Thanks

If you counted the day you put the eggs in the incubator as day 1, then this is really day 27. It isn't all that unusual for eggs in an incubator to hatch early or late. If this IS day 27, wait until tomorrow. If there's no external pips I would candle some to see what's what. If it is day 28 today I would candle to see ... Just try to be quick and get the eggs back into the incubator as soon as you can. You might want to take pictures of the eggs being candled to post. Should you do this candle the eggs from the side and try to reduce reflected light in the image.

I just incubated eggs (duck and chicken together) for the first time in a borrowed Brinsea Octagon and successfully hatched 8 of 12 duck eggs and 11 of 12 chicken eggs, which I was thrilled about! I found it really hard to figure out what was going on with the duck eggs at day 28 because I was worried about the eggs all drying out while candling....so I turned my bathroom into an incubator and took my time! I brought the full incubator into the bathroom, ran the shower at full hot, with no fan on and the door shut, then candled them all in the steam and heat. It worked like a charm, and I didn’t have to stress about taking too long or missing something due to hurrying. 😆 My husband thinks I’m nuts to stress so much over eggs!
