Help!!!!!!! Day old muscovy duckling very sick!!!!

Once the little one perks up from resting maybe tomorrow late days scramble a small egg and mash it up real well so it's tiny enough for it to eat and see if it will try some. They really don't even need water first 24hrs. But they do need rest after hatching and sounds like it had a difficult hatch. Sorry you lost the rest.

It was really sad. She started out with 20 eggs. She was the one who kept kicking the eggs out. Most of them died in shell a couple weeks ago 2 hatched the day before yesterday and 3 left. 2 of them had poked a tiny hole in shell, this is one of them. It had been about 24 hours with no progress so I opened the hole in the shell up a little so it could get more air yesterday morning. When we came home last night there was still no progress so I helped it hatch. The other eggs had a clear zip all the way around the shell so I left it alone figuring it made a lot of progress it would be able tj finish it. This morning went out and the baby was died in shell. And this one wasn't holding his head up and you could just tell something was wrong. I brought him in immediately and have been trying all morning to keep this little guy alive. Please pray for this little one. I've given him water with suagr and vitamins, and water/acv. It's a fighter.

I wouldn't over do his system right now chose one or the other. Some say sugar water. But just tiny drops because it is living off it's yolk that it absorbed while hatching and really doesn't need anything right now but rest.

I just had Runner ducklings hatch this week under a chicken hen, they didn't start eating till 24 hrs they did begin drinking sooner. But they also had 3 other Runner ducklings to show them what to do. But the scramble egg was a life saver for my 2 that shipped. They were going down hill fast until I fed them scramble eggs.

Ok. I hatched him last night at about 9. When is the earliest I can feed him the eggs?

Gorgeous duckling! :love

I’d just give it some time to get it’s bearings. Hatching is tough, and if you assisted, they can be even more weak.
By the way, some ducklings can take up to 48 hours to hatch. Not saying you rushed it, but as long as they are chirping and you can still see movement, they can take longer.

Update. The duckling died. It got better for a couple hours. But still unable to hold his head up. Then it went downhill. In the end it had very labored breathing but the breaths were far apart. And was only breathing out of its mouth Stopped moving its legs and opening its eyes.... it's in ducky heaven... I cried..... then buried it with its sibling that died in the shell overnight while trying to hatch....

I'm sorry for your losses... It never gets easier! Just know you did everything in your power to help it out and make it thrive :hugs It was a little fighter!

you did amazing! it's not your fault that he died, and I'm sure he's in ducky heaven eating all the corn and bugs he can imagine! I'm very sorry for your loss, and I hope you can finally get some rest. :hugs
