Hello all, I recently lost one of my two hens to impacted crop. I'm getting more hens soon to keep my remaining one company, but for the time being she's alone. I let her out today and went to weigh her food and she hasn't touched it at all. She's not acting lethargic or sick in the slightest. While she's outside she ate a few mealworms, grass, earth worms, and various plants. She's still drinking and it's currently at the tail end of her molt. I've been sitting outside with her for 15 minutes trying to get her to eat her regular food but she is refusing. Could this be because she misses her companion? What do I do?

She could be mourning the loss or feeling lonely. If she's eating other food she may not have a taste for her current feed. Try making her some mash or boiled eggs are a favorite. My girls like cherry tomatoes, Mandarin oranges and sunflower seeds. One of my roosters lost his best mate to a dog attack and he was sad for a few days or week. He just sat in the coop alone and stopped crowing for awhile. Does she have any signs to indicate she is sick?
