I bought six shipped eggs for a broody hen to hatch and candled them at day 8 when she got off the nest for her daily break. Two were not developed at all so I discarded them. Two have very large and uneven shaped air cells and seem to have nothing developing inside except a dark shadow that moves around. I dont have much hope for them but I left them on the nest.

The final two have the telltale dark solidness inside of something developing (I only use a torch so can't see more clearly), but the air cells are quite large and saddle shaped/very uneven due to areas of detached membrane. I candled again at day 12 and the air cells take up almost half the eggs.

Is there hope for the last two? Is there something I can do to give them more hope of hatching? Or should I just leave them alone now and trust the hen? It would be so disappointing to have none hatch. :(

If it matters the eggs are very small bantams (seramas).
Sorry I dont have photos.

One thing that can help is to hatch them sitting upright. I use a piece of egg carton (no lid) and cut the bottoms of the cups out so the heat can still reach the bottom as well as the top. Also, try not to handle them more than necessary since the membrane is so fragile.

Just reread though and see you have them under a hen, though, so there's not much you can do.

I know a lot of people say they have trouble with the serama eggs.
