Help Determining Sex of Bovan White

It would be nice to think the other chicks from that hatch went to equally caring homes. So pleased you were able to get it some companions.

Sadly I haven't changed my opinion as a result of that last photo and personally I'm not convinced that lack of tail growth indicates male anyway. At that age a pronounced pink comb is the tell tale trait as far as I am concerned. Hope I'm wrong in this case, for everyone's sake.

It also has the biggest legs/feet I've ever seen.

So here's another question...assuming we will most likely be sending little Worby off to a new home, that leaves us with just 2 chicks. Should we get a 3rd to replace him? Is only 2 chickens enough? As much as I'd love to have a nice big flock we have them illegally in town.

We got the other two on March 16th, so a new chick would be 1-2 weeks younger. Not sure if that makes a difference.

That's a difficult one. If you only have two chickens left and something happens to one of them, you are going to be left with a lonely chuck but if you are already pushing your luck with local regulations then maybe cross that bridge when you come to it. Of course, you can't be certain at this stage that the other two chicks you got are female.... even if they are sold as female, it's not an exact science, unless you bought sex link pullets? You might end up with two boys and a girl and then have the same problem of a lone chick.

Two weeks difference is quite significant at that age and if you got a new one, it might end up getting badly picked on by the older ones which will have formed a bond. Probably best just to wait and see how things play out for now.

So after a few days I have found out that 1) There is zero doubt in my mind the chick is a rooster. That little comb of his gets bigger and redder each day. 2) I don't have the heart to rehome him. He's so sweet. We're too attached. Soooo...we're looking into options of ways to make it work. I read some posts on here about eating fertilized eggs and I had no idea that was a thing! A huge reason we were re-homing was we want eggs, so those posts eased my mind a ton.
