HELP! DIY auto coop door. what battery to use?

Thanks. We are getting Brahma's and I know they are larger birds so that is why I went with the 18" door. the 12" seemed a bit low for them so was debating on 16 or 18. I don't mind adjusting the clock and figure I can set it for a bit after sunset and a bit before sunrise to give them time but the area it is in can get shady at times so didn't want to chance it not opening going just by the light.

Thank you for the help. so then I just need the door and track right? anything else?
Sounds like a good start... some wire and you are ready to start.!!

I went with a 22.00 battery from Rural King. Not sure if you have one close by. Much bigger battery. I'd still put a solar charger on it.

That would work. You can probably find something very similar at any auto parts store as well.

****** very important, lead acid batteries even though it is a small amount, give off fumes. I put mine in a small box outside of the coop as opposed to putting it inside.*******

Sorry to keep asking questions. I found this one :

Mighty Max Battery ML18-12 - 12V 18AH New Battery for 90508011 Craftsman Black Lawn Mowers Brand Product

or this one?

VICI Battery VB18-12 - 12V 18AH Replacement for John Deere 155C 12V 18Ah Lawn and Garden Battery

I can get that shipped so not have to drive to an auto parts store to get it. Is that big enough to not be charging it non stop?

They should work. The actuator doesn't draw a lot of power. What is hard on the battery is drawing it all the way down and then charging it back up. You only get so many of those Cycles out of a battery. If you check on Amazon you might find a very inexpensive solar charger that would just trickle charge it constantly.

Thanks. I have found a few 12V solar chargers. Is there a certain W I should look for? I have seen 1.8 to 10W. Will any work if on constantly?
