help dropped my chick

Chicks are surprisingly tough little creatures, but then a fall can do some harm. How is your little one acting? Showing any signs of injury/distress?

I love my baby chicks with a passion, and would NEVER do anything to hurt them, but I have to admit to being embarrassingly clumsy over these years, and dropped a chick from time to time, the highest being from about five feet, OMG!

And that was onto a concrete floor.

They bounce. They are really amazingly durable little critters. Nothing bad has ever come from one of these falls, not to say it can't. But if your chick got up and trotted off on its merry way, I think you have nothing to worry about.

If your chick suffered damage, it would be immediately apparent in its inability to stand and walk.

My broody raised chicks have to jump over two feet out of the nest box. It isn't a hard floor, but they have no issues. They are only a couple days old. I've dropped more chicks from three feet+ than I care to admit. They are tough little critters.

Well, I figure, they're birds. Mommas knock them out of nests, step on them, they peck each other..... they're a lot tougher than they look lol.

You have nothing to worry about. At 2 weeks old they'll fly larger distances than a foot and a half. My chicks fly high and free fall into the brooder and walk away like nothing happened. If he seems fine than he is. You should know if something seems wacky. Hope you're enjoying your babies!
