HELP! Duckling "paralyzed" on left side

Not directly related - but just from general weakness and lethargy. How many humans do you know that just curl up in bed...or on the lounge when they are sick and dont get out of their PJ's. This is just the ducky equivalent. He dosnt have the interest to wash his face or to enjoy a swim as he is weak. As long as he continues to eat well- he will improve. Dewey wont be out of the woods for a while- but at least now you are heading in a positive direction with him.

i to have a baby that is showin the same signs as your. i am trying everthing people are telling you. lets keep our fingers crossed.

Yes everyone on here has been soooooo helpful. I know more than any vet in my area on his condition thanks to everyone. I think he is going to pull through and recover fully. Thank you! Hope yours gets better! This is def the place to get the best answers

Update: Dewey can walk!!!! This is the first time since Friday that he can actually use his leg and walk. I only let him walk 3 ft then bundled him up so he doesn't over do it. I can tell him was tired. I got him some frozen peas waiting for him when he recovers. Until then starter feed, brewers yeast, fresh water with a spoonful of yogurt. Plus two baths a day. He is also being treated with Terramycin for his eye. Thank you so much for all ur help! He is alive and improving only because of everyone's help! I'm so happy and thankful!

I am sorry to tell you this, but I had two pekin ducklings last year, and they both died, one from a respiratory problem and the other from a fractured leg. The one all of a sudden would not/could not walk. We ate and drank like crazy, and I would pick him up and his right leg was totally limp, no response to squeezing on the leg or anything. So we took it to a specialist and she said he had fractured the leg in two places and there was no way to fix it but to put her down, and that is what we had to do. It was horrible, so now I am terrified to get more ducklings, it totally ruined my experinece! I am sorry about your little ones

Oh, woops, disreguard that last post from me, I just read what you wrote and YAY! I am so happy for your little one!

Yeah thankfully he didn't have a broken leg. I knew it wasn't a broken leg since two others died. I ruled that out the first day. The vet wanted to do xrays on him for $150.00 lol I was like seriously? After I told them it def wasn't that. Some vets really just want money. They even assured me over the phone before I brought him in that they had several vets there and some were able to treat a duck but yet didn't know anything going on. Couldn't recommend me doing anything. So sad. Again, everyone on here helping me is what saved his life!

Thank you! Currently Dewey is laying with me in bed. I promise pictures soon!

Let him walk, if he wants to. That gets the circulation going and he gains strenght faster. He will know when it is time to lay down.
