My Indian Runner ducklings are a little over a week old. I let them run around my yard for a bit everyday. It's about 75 degrees outside and partly cloudy. As they were drinking and playing in their waterer one laid down on her side with her whole body fighting for breath. Being runners they usually protest to being handled (especially this little gal) but not a peep. That's when I knew something was wrong!

She seems a bit better but still having a hard time. she was also frequently flapping her beak like she was eating. What could it be? Choking?

I'm new to ducks so I have no idea where to start.

So Baby is better. After rubbing her throat and keeping her warm she improved but still slightly labored. After a quick nap in her brooder I picked her up to check her and she huffed, gagged, shook her head and out flew a gnarly slug. She is breathing fine now. I guess her eyes where bigger than her throat.
