Help? Egg bound? Sick? Not sure what's going on

I am comfortable, I'm quite a scientist at heart. I will put the dogs away and conduct a necropsy and if anyone is interested, I will post my findings here.

Thank you for your kind words. *hugs*

I was just on the forum looking for what could be wrong with my Gladys and you have described exactly what is happening to her! I'm so worried now. I have checked her crop and vent, but I don't think that is it. I wonder if she ate something that was poisonous? She seemed a little better for a while today, but then she was very lethargic again. She closes her eyes and just sits there and almost falls over. I have been trying to get her to drink water and eat, but she doesn't seem to want to. I did give her a little watermelon today and she ate a few bites. If you find out anything, please let me know. I'm afraid she is going to die. She is one of six and a rooster. They are Golden Laced Wyandottes.

I forgot to add that she seems pale looking (crown etc.).

I am so sorry that you lost your poor little white. I know how you feel right now. I'm really worried and feel helpless.

Paulita, I'm so sorry Gladys is sick. If you haven't already, may I suggest you start a thread about her so more folks will see it. Entitle it something like - "Very lethargic, pale - NEED HELP"

Include everything you can think of that might be relevant:
- - When did the problem begin?
- - How old is she?
- - What is her diet?
- - Is she laying eggs? Do you know when the last one was?
- - Has she been wormed - if so, with what and when?
- - What does her poop look like?
- - When is the last time you saw her drink and eat normally?
- - And anything else that could provide clues.

Make sure she stays hydrated. To do this you might have to very slowly dribble water along her beak so she swallows on her own. A few drops of Polyvisol a day could be given to try to keep her nourished.

Sending good wishes - keep us posted.

I know this may sound crazy but do you think that when chickens get sick and it looks like they may have eaten something bad do u think pepto would help or hurt i know it helps me but i don't have a crop.

Pepto does not fiz to cause a massive gas expansion.

It's based off of good bacteria just like when people give their chickens yogurt or real/fresh milk(unpasteurized) so I'd say it's worth further research. I would avoid it until it was looked into further though.
